Siniša Mali | mayor of Belgrade

Siniša Mali, PhD was elected Mayor of Belgrade in May of 2014. He leads a city of 1.7 million people which contributes to national GDP by ~40%.

Before becoming Mayor, Siniša Mali served as Special Advisor for economic and financial affairs to the Prime Minister of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vučić. Prior to this, he was a financial advisor and consultant in private practice and at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, where he specialized in transactional work in M&A, financial advisory, financial restructuring, and in business consolidation of private and public enterprises. In 2001, he was appointed Assistant Minister for Privatization at the Ministry of the Economy and Privatization. He also served as the Director of Tender Privatizations at the Privatization Agency of the Republic of Serbia, and worked for Credit Suisse First Boston in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group in New York, NY.

Siniša Mali obtained his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Belgrade, School of Economics, and as a Ron Brown scholar, he received an MBA, specializing in Finance from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in the US. In 2013, he defended his PhD dissertation on the topic of “Value Creation through Restructuring and Privatization – the Experience of Serbia,” at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade.

The Mayor is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of: the CFA Institute, the Serbian Business Angels Network, the Fulbright Alumni Association of Serbia and British-Serbian Business Club. He is a licensed portfolio manager at the Belgrade Stock Exchange, and has served previously as President of various boards of directors including those of Fiat Automobiles Serbia, Komercijalna Banka, Air Serbia, and as a BoD member of the Clinical Hospital Centers of Serbia.
